Weekly Update: Multi-Author Ebook Giveaway and an Upcoming Book Sale
Welcome to Through a Glass, Darkly’s weekly(ish) update!
Please forgive my lateness this week — initially, I didn’t intend to send this out on Friday as usual because I was in the middle of trying my hardest to write a short story to submit to an anthology I only found out about last weekend in time for today’s submission deadline.
And that was going well! It was the perfect week for such a challenge. I didn’t have any freelance writing on my plate, and it was too rainy to work on our property. On Monday I outlined my story, and I sailed through Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s writing sessions. I totally had this!
And then on Wednesday, Husband started coming down with flu symptoms. Uh-oh.
I forged ahead. Thursday’s writing session went well. And then I started coming down with symptoms.
In case you’re new here or haven’t been keeping score, this is our sixth illness this year. Sigh.
Which brings us to Friday. I had the story about halfway written. I needed to pull off several hours of writing in order to finish it and still have time to give it a good polish before sending it off on Saturday. But it quickly became apparent that I just didn’t have it in me. I tried to push through, but my brain was mush and the story just wasn’t coming to me, and I knew that I needed rest and healing more than I needed to be in the running for an anthology from a small press I’d only just heard of.
So I went to bed. Which meant no Friday update, either. But I have a couple of things to tell you about today while I’m feeling semi-functional before I go lie back down. And on the bright side, I’ll have a new short story ready to share here after Desolation wraps up.
The Based Book Sale is Back!
If you missed your chance to grab the Desolation sequel, Evolution, for only 99 cents, you’ll have another chance May 7-13 when it’s included in the Based Book Sale’s North American Fantasy sale! As so many authors have been joining the general sales, it can get a little overwhelming, so they’re narrowing it down by genre and region to make it easier for readers to comb through the listings. Follow the Based Book Sale Substack so you’ll be served up all the links when the sale begins!
Free Ebooks (Mine and Other People’s)!
I’m participating in the Spells and Spacecraft Free Ebook Bazaar on MyBookCave! Download more than two dozen free scifi and fantasy ebooks and, while you’re there, enter to win a $25 gift card!
Putting Off the Paywall
Thanks to getting sick, I just don’t have the energy right now to go through and change the paywall settings on these serials. So free subscribers have an extension on time to read the following stories for free here on Substack.
Terror at Lake Eucha
Something lingers in the woods of Lake Eucha... something that refuses to be forgotten.
The Hag: Navigation Page
Terrifying visions haunt a man as he lies paralyzed in his bed, causing him to question everything he knows about the world, his own sanity, and even his wife. A multi-part horror novella.
The Witch in the Cellar - Part One
A young boy and his family move into a house that's the subject of a local urban legend. Is the neighbor boy just making up stories... or is the legend true, and truly dangerous?
In Case You Missed It…
I posted chapters 9 through 12 of Desolation this week. If they got lost in your inbox, you can find all of the chapters posted so far here on the navigation page.
That’s all for this week. Four more chapters of Desolation will be coming your way next week, so stay tuned!
