Welcome to Through a Glass, Darkly’s weekly(ish) update!
Through a Glass, Darkly is the fiction publication of horror and supernatural thriller author Jean Marie Bauhaus (that’s me!), where I’m publishing my new fiction for you to read free for a limited time before it makes it into book form (paid subscribers can access all the fiction I post here all the time and read at their leisure). If you’re new here, first, HI! Second, check out the About page and the Roadmap to learn more, and go here to update your subscription preferences.
What you’re reading now is my semi-regular weekly newsletter.
Hi guys! Happy October!
I didn’t mean to fall off the grid for a couple of weeks. I just wanted to pop in here and say that I’m still here!
Life got a little overwhelming for a while. Once things slowed down, I was more tired than I thought. I also got sick again, which forced me to rest for about three days, which turned out to be just what I needed. I was dangerously on the verge of burnout again and I was struggling to think along creative lines.
But as you may have seen, I finished and posted a short story this week, so the creative juices are starting to flow again. I’ve been playing catch up on a lot of stuff, and that includes work on our property. My “day job” has picked back up, too. I haven’t had a lot of time to think about posting content here, but I’m trying to get my groove back.
Next week will probably be slow around these parts as I take time to think about what I want to post here. I need to work on a short story for another anthology that I’d like to submit to at the end of the month, and I’m trying to decide on something to post here from my back catalogue. Considering all my novels are currently in KU jail, there’s really only one story I’ve got left that I haven’t shared yet, so I might just dole that out over the next couple of weeks. I’ve also got more Restless Oklahoma posts to share.
At any rate, I’m hoping that next week I’ll have time to sit down and do some long overdue planning. I’m still wanting to start an author vlog or podcast, too. Add that to the list of things that got squeezed out of my life in September.
I can tell you this — my main goal for this month is to take things as slow as I can and just enjoy it. October is my favorite month by far. I look forward to it every year, and it seems that, every year, I get so busy that it flies by and then I feel like I missed it. So I’m trying to do something every day to make things a little more Octobery. Which reminds me that one thing I need to do for you guys is put together a list of spooky fiction I’ve been reading here on Substack.
So… let’s just all wait and see what next week brings.
In Case You Missed It…
