Welcome to Through a Glass, Darkly’s weekly(ish) update!
Through a Glass, Darkly is the fiction publication of horror and supernatural thriller author Jean Marie Bauhaus (that’s me!), where I’m publishing my new fiction for you to read free for a limited time before it makes it into book form (paid subscribers can access all the fiction I post here all the time and read at their leisure). If you’re new here, first, HI! Second, check out the About page and the Roadmap to learn more, and go here to update your subscription preferences.
What you’re reading now is my semi-regular weekly newsletter.
I’m sending out the weekly update early this week in lieu of Short Story Wednesday because this Friday is Independence Day and I plan to be doing typical 4th of July things that day, like lazing about and getting some sun and watching Jaws and grilling meat before consuming it wrapped in cheese and buns and slathered in mustard.
Despite having had two conversations about which fireworks party we’re attending this year (our neighbor’s or the church’s — and the answer is probably neither; by the time it’s dark enough for fireworks we’ll both most likely be in bed with the lights out, trying to sleep through the noise), it only just sunk in for me that the fourth is coming right up this week. Ever since I got the wind back in my sales following my extended bought with the flu, I’ve been running at full-speed, hardly taking time to rest as I try to make up for all the time and momentum I lost to illness and post-illness fatigue (and my energy still isn’t all the way back to where it was before).
What I’m saying is that I realize I need a holiday, so I’m adjusting my regular posting and publishing plans this week to make room for an extended break. I’ve got some loose ends to tie up today, but starting tomorrow through Sunday I’m going to try to be online as little as possible and focus on real, face-to-face interactions in between naps and other restful activities.
So happy 4th, y’all, whether you recognize it as a holiday or just another Friday.
Fragments & Fancies is Officially Out Everywhere!
I cleaned up and launched an updated “15th anniversary” edition of Fragments & Fancies: Ficlets, Flash Fiction and Shorts (realizing too late that I’m a year off and it’s only been 14 years since I published my first book, but it’s fine who’s really counting). I also added author commentary to a few of the stories. I published it as a second edition, so I’m not sure whether Amazon pushed the updates through to Kindle readers who bought the original Kindle version, or if you would have to buy it new, if you’re so inclined.
I have to say, I haven’t done a lot of promotion on this collection over the years because I was under the assumption that it wasn’t really my best work, as I only published it to teach myself the ropes of self-publishing. But having re-read it in the process of polishing and commentating, I surprised myself with the quality of writing. I think it holds up next to my other work and I’m actually quite proud of it. Here’s the link to all the links if you’d like to check it out. It should also be available on Hoopla and in the library system soon.
New Cover Reveal: Midnight Snacks
Speaking of updating old works, my other collection, Midnight Snacks: Bite-Sized Tales of Terror recently got a cover makeover. Here’s the result:
By the way, you can still read some of the tales from this collection, including The Snack Machine and Devil’s Promenade, here for free. Like, share and tell your friends!
