Weekly Update: Scheduling changes, a sort-of break and... a podcast?
Welcome to Through a Glass, Darkly’s weekly(ish) update!
Through a Glass, Darkly is the fiction publication of horror and supernatural thriller author Jean Marie Bauhaus (that’s me!), where I’m publishing my new fiction for you to read free for a limited time before it makes it into book form (paid subscribers can access all the fiction I post here all the time and read at their leisure). If you’re new here, first, HI! Second, check out the About page and the Roadmap to learn more, and go here to update your subscription preferences.
What you’re reading now is my semi-regular weekly newsletter.
Happy Friday, Darklings!
I hope this missive finds you well. I want to give you a heads up to expect a shift in how I’ll be doing things as we slide into fall. For starters, I’m going to relax the schedule, and instead of trying to get things out on a certain day, I’ll just post it when it’s ready and not worry about what day of the week it is.
I’m making good progress on episode 8 of Daughters of Men, but not as much as I would have liked, so it might not be ready by Monday. It will go out next week, when it’s ready. I was already planning on treating that as a “mid-season finale” and taking a short break from posting while I get a few more episodes in the can (who here is old enough to remember watching network TV in real time and that agonizing wait between November sweeps and January when all we had to watch were reruns?).
During that break, I’m going to finish a short story I started a couple of weeks ago, and send that out in the interim. I’m also saving up stories I’ve been reading on Substack for another short story round-up post, and boy, have I got some doozies for you.
Oh! And I’ve also got a new Tuesday Tunes coming out next Tuesday for you 7% Solution fans.
So things will continue, just at a slower pace as I make room in my life for some projects we need to get done on our property once the weather cools. And not only that, but also a project I’m excited to tell you about:
I’m starting a vlog. And a podcast.
I recorded the video below and posted here on Monday. I didn’t send it out because it was mainly targeted at my fellow writers on Notes, but in it I discuss my vlogging and podcasting intentions and reasons. Click through below to watch it:
Howdy.
I’m not sending this out to my list. But in lieu of a post today, I thought I’d jump on and practice being in front of the camera while I talk about my thoughts on a couple of well-worn pieces of advice for indie authors and also about my intentions of starting a vlog and/or podcast.
So the plan is to do a weekly vlog and post it both here and on YouTube, and maybe possibly to push out the audio as a podcast. This will likely take the place of these weekly updates, as I’ll talk about what I’ve been up to and what I’m working on in the first segment. I’ll also be talking about various issues and topics around writing and creativity and how they intersect with aging and neurodivergence and life in general, as well as indie publishing and all the challenges of having to be my own publicist.
So if I’m able to get the first official entry recorded next week, then this might be the last newsletter that goes out in this format. Don’t worry if you prefer to read — the Substack algo is pretty good at transcribing, and each vlog post that goes out will include a transcription.
Things may adapt and change as I figure out what I’m doing (currently I have no idea), so bear with me while I try to find a groove with this.
Eventually, I would like to start a separate TAGD podcast focusing on the weird, the strange, the spooky and unexplained and exploring these things from a Biblical perspective, a la this post. But first, I’m going to be focused on starting a podcast for my other publication, Spirit, Sword & Truth. I think trying to do one weekly vlog and one podcast is probably more than enough until I get the hang of it.
We’ll see how this goes!
Meanwhile! Ripples in Space comes out in 11 days! Pre-order it below!

In Case You Missed it…
On Wednesday, I sent out another article about some hometown high strangeness.
Restless Oklahoma: Tulsa's Cave House
Welcome to Restless Oklahoma, a series that originally ran on my old author blog highlighting paranormal activity and high strangeness in the Sooner State. This article was originally written and published in 2017, but I’ve updated it with current info.
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and we’ll see what happens next week!
